Peru . . . Interesting Bits We´ve Noticed

There are a few interesting things that we have noticed in the good ol´Peru that we want to share with the rest of the world, though some of them might me just South American traditions I´m sure:
1. Do not attempt to eat Pizza or order fancy Chinese dishes . . . Peru is not exactly famous for this! So trust the Peruvians in making Peruvian food and if you want Chinese food, just order chicken, veggies, and chaufa.
2. Prices are never listed! Ask how much it is before you get it . . . whether it´s a drink, food, a ride, whatever. It´s a lesson we keep on learning over and over again.
3. Peruvians like to hack (loudly cough in repeated spasms) and spit. Do not get offended or vocally disgusted . . . just nod and smile.
4. Peruvians LOVE to honk their horns. There´s no particular reason for it?! Maybe it is to warn other people, scare a dog or for some personal acknowledgement . . . I don´t know but they love it.
5. Bring toilet paper everywhere you go. You never know when you´re going to be done with your #1,#2, or #1.5 and there is no paper around and the water is not running in the sink.
6. Water! Not always on! There are times of the day when you have it, and then there are times in the day when you don´t. It´s alright but plan ahead.
7. Hot showers? Not likely. You better shower before the sun sets like everybody else does and besides, a cold shower does a body good.
8. (For the girls) When getting a wax, ask if they´ve done that before. . . because that can get messy if you know what I mean.
9. There really aren´t any rules about how many people can be in a vehicle. Realistically, if you have a van designed for 11 people, you can get away with at least 16 easy.
10. And for the big finale . . . Peruvians love to cover things! Cover all things with pretty little fabric embroidered around the edges. If it´s covered, then it´s orderly and clean. For example, a display of our last hostess Loyda´s obsession:
Blender Cover

Stove-top Cover

Rice-Maker Cover
Orange Juice Squeezer Cover and Mixer Cover

Toaster Cover

Heater Cover

But wait, it gets better . . .

Small-Plastic-Bags Holder Cover

Large and Medium-Bags Holder Cover

Match-Box Holder Cover (disguised as a chicken!)

AND MY OLD TIME FAVORITE . . .

Small-Cup Cover

Hope you enjoyed that as much as we did :)

You gotta love her.

Hahaha. The covers are so funny. Never seen anything like it before. Have you seen Sofkas lately? I have the best video of Sofka from Iceland. Will have to put it on youtube.
